Resource Allocation Software for Heavy Equipment Fleets

Hi, we're managing a growing fleet of excavators, dozers, loaders, and haul trucks across multiple jobsites, and keeping track of where each machine is needed has become increasingly challenging. Has anyone used resource allocation software specifically for heavy equipment fleets, and if so...

Mini Cold Planers - Any Real Performance or Just a Gimmick?

I wouldn't call them a gimmick, on small patch jobs and tight areas, they can save a ton of time and mobilization costs. Full-size machines still win on bigger projects, but mini cold planers definitely have their place. 👍

What’s the longest you’ve ever had a lift down for repairs?

I've seen a lift sit for over a month waiting on a hard-to-find part. The actual repair only took a day, but the parts delay felt like forever and definitely made having a rental backup worth the extra cost. 😅

VeriTread pricing transparency,.. Any hidden fees?

Seems like a lot of the “hidden fees” people run into are really from unexpected site conditions or missing machine details 😅 Heavy equipment transport always gets interesting once permits, attachments, and loading access enter the conversation.

Upgrading Dump Trailer Tires for Better Off-Road Performance?

The sidewall strength alone makes a huge difference off-road.. Highway tires really struggle once the trailer starts bouncing around on gravel and muddy job sites.

John Deere ADTs D vs E Series: Why Same Prices, Which Is Better?

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing at auctions. A lot of operators still lean toward the D series because they’ve got a reputation for being tough, straightforward trucks that are easier to keep running long term. The E series definitely brought upgrades in comfort and efficiency, but once...

Skid Steer Attachments Getting More Popular Than Full Machines?

I was browsing the unused listings on Ritchie Bros. and noticed there seem to be tons of skid steer attachments showing up lately, almost more attention on the attachments than the machines themselves. With how expensive new equipment is getting, are more people just upgrading attachments...

Coal Mine Operator vs Construction Operator (U.S.), Which Pays Better?

From what I’ve seen, coal mining can pay higher per hour, but construction usually wins long-term with steadier work and fewer downtime gaps

Anyone know a good aftermarket source for CAT limit switch 197-3818?

Hey, had the same issue before, might be worth checking aftermarket sites like Avspares or even eBay, just double-check fitment since that CAT 197-3818 limit switch is pretty specific to the setup

Heavy Equipment Manufacturers News on CAT, Komatsu, Volvo & More?

Yeah it’s crazy how fast everything’s shifting toward hybrid and electric right now, but I still feel like real-world durability is the big question mark on tough jobsites. I’ve also been seeing more listings pop up on Boom & Bucket lately with these newer models, so it’ll be interesting to see...

Smart Sensors and IoT in Construction Machinery: What’s Next?

Feels like we’re not far off from machines basically managing themselves, stuff like Caterpillar Inc.’s smart tech already cuts a ton of guesswork, so I wouldn’t be surprised if next step is machines coordinating jobs while we just supervise 😄

Where can I get a top carrier roller or the right part number for a Caterpillar D3B, and is it normal to find oil in the starter from a wet flywheel?

you can usually find the right part number through a Cat dealer or parts manual pretty quick, and yeah a little oil near the starter can happen with a wet flywheel setup, but I’d still double-check seals just to be safe

Best Ways to Motivate Crews on Long Projects?

Gotta agree with you there, @Mr. McTuggart ,.. once that grind fatigue kicks in, it’s real. I’ve noticed even small wins or letting the crew have a say in how things get done can make a big difference. Curious if you’ve ever tried rotating tasks just to break up the routine a bit?

How Fast Do You Get Quotes on VeriTread After Posting a Load?

I’ve been wondering the same thing.. does VeriTread usually get quotes rolling in pretty quick, or does it really depend on the route and machine size?
