John Deere ADTs D vs E Series: Why Same Prices, Which Is Better?

I've been digging into auction listings for John Deere articulated dump trucks, specifically the D series vs. the E series, and something doesn't quite add up.

From what I'm seeing, D and E series ADTs are selling at pretty similar prices even when hours and conditions are close. I would've expected the newer E series to hold more value, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I know emissions systems changed on the E series, but is that the main reason? Are there reliability concerns, higher maintenance costs, or downtime issues that make buyers lean toward the older D series?

Kinda funny how the prices stay close, it feels like a lot of guys still trust the simpler D series, while the E series brought more features and efficiency but also added complexity with newer systems … makes it a tougher call than it should be

Yeah, I’ve noticed the same thing at auctions. A lot of operators still lean toward the D series because they’ve got a reputation for being tough, straightforward trucks that are easier to keep running long term. The E series definitely brought upgrades in comfort and efficiency, but once emissions systems start acting up, some buyers would rather stick with the older “less electronics, less headaches” mindset.

The D-Series offers proven reliability, but the E-Series provides superior cab comfort and efficiency. At the same price, choose E-series upgrades.
