Hey everyone, how do you usually tell the difference between normal undercarriage wear and something that’s a red flag? Are there specific signs you look for before it turns into a bigger (and expensive) problem? Would love to hear what checks or habits have saved you from major repairs.

Undercarriage repairs are definitely the biggest "wallet-drainer" on these machines, so catching stuff early is huge. One habit that saves thousands: Take five minutes every few days to dig out teh packed-in mud and rocks with a crowbar or a pressure washer. If that junk freezes or dries hard, it acts like sandpaper on your seals and bushings.

I’ve noticed uneven track wear or one side going faster than the other is usually a red flag

saved me from a bigger repair catching that early.

Take a look at your rollers and idlers. If you see shiny, uneven wear or "scuffing" on one side, your alignment is likely off. If a roller isn't spinning and looks flat on one side, it's seized. Replace it now before it starts "eating" your track links.

Normal Wear
  • Even wear on tracks, rollers, and sprockets
  • Smooth tracking, no strange noises
Red Flags
  • Uneven wear or machine pulling to one side
  • Sharp/hooked sprocket teeth
  • Leaking rollers or idlers
  • Loose or sagging tracks
Quick Habits
  • Daily walk-around check
  • Keep proper track tension
  • Clean out mud and debris
Small issues = cheap fix. Ignore them = expensive rebuild!

Here's a quick and simple comparison table you can use:
