Old dozer for a ranch work?

What do you recommend, CAT D6D or CAT M/N, for ranch work, about 40 -50 acres?
If you're talking ranch-work over 40-50 acres, a well-maintained classic dozer like a D6D will handle everything from clearing brush to building terraces, maybe not as comfy or "bells and whistles" as a modern one, but for basic grunt work it'll outlast most newer machines because of simple, tough construction.

For 40–50 acres of ranch work, buy condition over model.

D6D: tough, simple, lots of push, easy to wrench on.

D6 M/N: smoother controls, better fuel efficiency, easier grading.

Best choice is the one with better undercarriage, engine, and transmission. A healthy machine with the right blade/ripper matters more than the badge.

For a 40–50 acre ranch, I’d lean toward the CAT D6D if you can find one that’s well maintained. They’re proven machines, easier to work on, and parts availability is usually better. The newer M/N models are more comfortable and efficient, but maintenance costs can add up. It really comes down to budget, condition, and how much tech you want versus simplicity.

for a 40-50 acre ranch, i'd lean toward the cat d6d. because it's strong, reliable, and handles grading and clearing really well. if you need something lighter and more versatile, the cat m/n is great, but for heavier ranch tassk the d6d usually wins out."
