Has anyone here had experience removing or replacing the front engine speed sensor on a 2008 Cat 320D?

Just wondering if there are any tricks, special tools, or steps that make the job easier. Would really appreciate any advice from those who've done it

Yeah, I've helped on one before. It's not the worst job, just a bit tight depending on access. The biggest tip is to clean the area first before you even try to remove the sensor - dirt can fall straight into the hole once it's out. Also, spray some penetrating oil and give it a few minutes if it feels stuck. Don't force it too hard because those sensors can snap.

yeah, i've done it before on a caterpillar 320d excavator. i'ts a bit tight but not too bad-just clean the area first, unplug the connector, and back the sensor out carefully. also check the wiring harness since sometimes the problem is the wire, not the sensor.

you might also find parts or machine listings through rb global marketplaces or sites like boom & bucket if you're comparing parts or machines.

I’ve run into this on a 320D before as well. Like others mentioned, the main thing is making sure the area around the sensor is really clean before pulling it out. A little compressed air or brake cleaner helps keep debris from falling inside. Access can be tight depending on the setup, but once the connector is off it usually backs out pretty straightforward. Also worth checking the harness and plug for corrosion or damage before replacing the sensor — sometimes that’s the real culprit.

I haven’t done it on that exact model, but cleaning the area around the sensor first really helps. The connector can be tight, but overall it’s usually a straightforward job with basic tools.
