Hey everyone!

I've noticed that some safety steps get skipped or rushed when operating heavy equipment, especially when things are busy. What are some of the most overlooked safety checks that operators should be paying more attention to? Any personal experiences or tips on making sure everything is properly inspected before starting a job? any information would be appreciated!

One thing I see skipped a lot is checking for hydraulic leaks and inspecting tire or track conditions. A small leak can turn into a big problem fast. Also, always test emergency shut-offs, it is better safe than sorry. Stay safe out there!

Pre-trip walkarounds seem to get rushed a lot, but catching loose bolts, worn hoses, or low fluid levels early can save a lot of trouble. Also, making sure backup alarms and lights are working is a small step that can prevent big accidents!

Totally agree! Walkarounds and fluid checks get skipped way too often! I’d also add seatbelt use and checking for debris around pedals with both small things that can make a big difference in an emergency. Anyone have a checklist they swear by?

Definitely don’t skip the seatbelt check! I mean, I’ve seen folks buckle up, but then forget to adjust the seat... might as well be driving a bumper car if you're not sitting right! And yeah, always check for debris, unless you want to experience a ‘sudden dance move’ while trying to step on the brake!

Three points of contact. Especially with younger guys. You can do a lot more damage to yourself in a 2-3ft slip n' fall. Watch yourself out there.

Ya'll covered the biggest ones already. A small one that goes overlooked in my opinion is visibility. People overlook broken or missing mirrors, morons. Such and easy fix and blind spots can be so dangerous. People these days think a camera is enough... get your mirrors fixed people.

Good points all around, I'd add this simple checking mirror positions and wiping down dirty camera lenses. Clear visibility makes a huge difference and gets skipped way too often.
