Engine RPMs: WOT or Not?

Hey everyone,

I've been operating skid steers for a while now and have always wondered about the best way to run the engine. I've heard some folks say that you should always run it wide open, while others claim it's harder on the machine.

I personally think that running the engine at max RPMs all the time, especially when doing lighter tasks, is unnecessary and might even be harmful. It seems like it puts extra stress on the engine components and could shorten their lifespan.

Has anyone else encountered this debate? I'd love to hear some opinions and maybe even find some references from owner's manuals or expert advice.

Thanks!

Running the engine at max RPMs constantly can indeed cause unnecessary wear and tear; it's typically best to adjust RPMs based on the load and task to ensure the longevity of the machine.

Yeah, I’ve always been cautious about running it at max RPMs for too long it seems like a good way to burn through some parts faster than necessary!

I usually keep an eye on the load and adjust accordingly. For lighter tasks, I find it's not necessary to go full throttle. Anyone have any advice on specific RPM ranges for different types of work, or should I just go with my gut?
