Hey everyone,
I’m comparing Wirtgen and Roadtec cold planers and wondering which one tends to have lower downtime in real-world use. I’ve heard Wirtgen machines are super reliable but can be pricey on parts, while Roadtec seems easier to maintain. For those of you who’ve run both, how do they stack up in terms of durability, service intervals, and parts availability? Are there specific models that stand out for long-term uptime?
Appreciate any insight before I make a purchase decision!

Great question, Luke! I’ve run both, and honestly, Wirtgen feels like the gold standard for precision and uptime, that if you stay on top of maintenance. That said, Roadtec’s simplicity and easier access to parts definitely make it a favorite when you need quick turnarounds. I’d say Wirtgen wins on tech and finish, but Roadtec keeps crews moving with fewer service delays. Anyone else notice differences in dealer support or how these two handle tough milling conditions?
