Common Flatbed Trailer Brake Issues and How to Fix Them?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been having some trouble with my flatbed trailer brakes and wanted to see if others have run into the same issues. What are the most common brake problems you’ve dealt with, electric or hydraulic, and how did you fix them? Any tips on quick checks or maintenance routines would be a big help.

Hey Richard, yeah I’ve run into a few issues over time, corroded wiring on electric brakes is a big one, especially after wet conditions. I usually start by checking connections and making sure the ground is solid. On hydraulic setups, leaks or air in the lines have given me trouble before. A quick brake bleed and fluid top-off usually does the trick. Regular inspections save a lot of headaches down the road!

Definitely been there, corroded wiring and weak grounds have caused me all kinds of brake headaches. I’ve learned to always check the connections and breakaway switch first before diving deeper!

totally hear you bad grounds and corroded wires have tripped me up more than once.. A quick clean-up usually saves a ton of hassle

biggest culprits I’ve seen are corroded grounds,

worn magnets on electric brakes, and air in hydraulic lines

90% of flatbed brake issues trace back to those.

Regularly clean connections, bleed lines, and check for uneven pad wear to stay ahead of it

Haha yep, flatbed brakes seem to have a universal list of usual suspects- bad grounds, corroded wires, and worn magnets top mine too.
