Why is coolant mixing with the engine oil on my Terex S7 scraper?

My 1976 Terex S7 scraper with a Detroit 471 engine overheated recently. Now the coolant keeps disappearing, and the engine oil has white slime. I also drained 2-3 litres of coolant from the oil pan. Could a head gasket, a cracked head, or another engine problem be causing this?

Overheating likely warped the head or blew the head gasket. 2-3 litres in the oil pan means a major leak. Pressure test the cooling system and check the head for cracks.

Coolant mixing with engine oil could be caused by a faulty oil cooler or a damaged head gasket. Have you checked the oil cooler for leaks

If coolant is mixing with the engine oil on a Terex S7 scraper, the first thing I would check is the engine oil cooler. A leak inside the oil cooler or a damaged seal can allow coolant to mix with the engine oil. Other possible causes include a blown head gasket, a cracked cylinder head, or a problem with the engine block.

First, check whether the engine oil has turned milky or creamy and look for signs of oil contamination in the coolant. Next, pressure-test the cooling system and inspect the oil cooler. This can help identify the actual cause of the problem without replacing parts unnecessarily.

Most importantly, avoid running the engine until the cause has been identified. When coolant mixes with engine oil, it reduces lubrication and can seriously damage the engine bearings and other critical components. Identifying and repairing the leak early can help prevent major engine damage and expensive repairs.
