I’ve been wondering about the history of excavators. When were excavators first invented, and how have they evolved over time? Who created the first excavator, and what was it used for?

Excavators have been around in some form since the 1800s, but the first real hydraulic excavator showed up in the 1950s. Before that, people just used steam shovels—which were basically giant metal dinosaurs scooping up dirt. Crazy how far we’ve come! Are you looking into excavator history for fun or for a project?
