How to tie down a mini excavator on a trailer?

I am new to hauling equipment and trying to learn things the right way.

I’ve got a mini excavator, and I’m looking for proper, real-world advice on how to tie it down on a trailer. I’ve watched a few videos, but I’d rather hear from people who actually move machines day in and day out.

Right now I’m mainly wondering:
  • Best tie-down points on the machine (tracks, frame, designated lugs?)
  • How many chains/straps do you usually run for a mini ex
  • Do you secure the bucket separately?
  • Any tips on positioning for proper tongue weight and balance
  • Common mistakes to avoid when hauling
Just trying to make sure I’m doing this safely and by the book. Any advice from operators or haulers would be appreciated — I’m here to learn everything I can about heavy equipment. Thanks in advance.

Always secure both the front and rear of the tracks using rated chains, keep the bucket down, and balance weight over the trailer axle.
