How do you feel about LiDAR and autonomous features showing up in heavy equipment?

Hi everyone,

With Caterpillar now partnering with Luminar to integrate LiDAR sensors into dozers and haulers, it looks like automation is gaining serious ground. Some say it's a game changer for safety and efficiency, while others think it's more hype than help, especially on busy, unpredictable job sites. Have any of you used semi-autonomous or sensor-assisted machines yet? Curious to hear if you think this tech is the future or just another expensive gimmick.

It’s wild how far we’ve come, LiDAR in dozers felt sci-fi a few years ago! The data these systems collect is insane: down to centimeter-level precision for grading. I haven’t run full autonomy yet, but assist features like grade control and obstacle detection are already cutting rework and downtime. I think it’s less about replacing operators and more about boosting their game. Anyone here tested it in tighter or cluttered sites yet? Curious how it handles unpredictability.
