How can I run a brush cutter without losing hydraulic power on my excavator?

I'm running a brush cutter off my excavator's thumb circuit, but other hydraulic functions become weak when the cutter is running. Would adjusting the pilot pressure help, or is there a better way to control the hydraulic flow?

I’d start by comparing the cutter’s required GPM and PSI with your excavator’s auxiliary hydraulic specifications. If other functions become weak whenever the cutter runs, it could be a flow-sharing or pump-capacity issue. A hydraulic technician can help determine whether you need flow control, circuit modifications, or a dedicated attachment circuit.

I’d check the hydraulic flow and pressure requirements of the brush cutter first. The thumb circuit might not be designed to run it continuously, especially if it’s sharing flow with other functions. Adjusting pilot pressure probably won’t fix the issue since it mainly controls how the valves respond. I’d look into using a proper auxiliary circuit with the right flow control and make sure the relief settings match the attachment’s requirements. Also, check whether the cutter is demanding more flow than the machine can supply. Getting the flow matched properly should make a bigger difference than just turning up the pressure.
