I’m looking to buy a forklift and weighing options between new and used.

Anyone bought one recently? Any tips on finding the best deal?

What's the use case? And what's your budget? Either of those might make the decision for you.

New Forklifts:
Pros: You get the latest technology, warranty coverage, and zero maintenance headaches for a while - important if you're not too handy or downtime is costly.
Cons: They’re pricey and the moment you drive it off the lot, it starts depreciating.

Used Forklifts:
Pros: Huge savings upfront. A solid, well-maintained used forklift can do the job just as well as new, especially if you’re not running it alot. Forklifts are generally in yards or warehouses, so might have a lot of hours but don't see the abuse of other types of machines.
Cons: You’re on the hook for repairs

If you're buying ONE forklift I’d lean toward used, but only if you find one with a good inspection, that you can visit. yourself, or one that has thorough service records. Don’t buy from some random auction or fly-by-night seller Stick to brands with a strong service network—Toyota, Hyster, or Cat are solid bets in forklifts.

If you're buying a few or more to run in a warehouse for a long time, I'd spring for new through a local dealer so you've got warranty and coverage if something happens to go down.

RE: Getting a good deal. Shop around and compare prices. Just like cars, end of the month/quarter/year are good times to buy. If you're buying used maybe you'll get lucky and find a warehouse or yard that's upgrading their fleet - usually people do that in Q4 so might be good timing for you!

Best of Luck!

@johnnyrogers, if you’re leaning toward a used forklift, Id definitely recommend checking out Boom & Bucket —they specialize in verified used equipment and might have something that fits your needs. Like @winston_wisdom said, sticking to reputable brands with solid service records is key. Good luck with your search!

If you’re open to used forklifts, checking local dealers or auctions can sometimes turn up great deals. Also, don’t forget to factor in maintenance history, it can make a huge difference in long-term reliability! Hope you find the right one!
