Do You Trust Modern Emissions Systems?

I've heard a lot of mixed opinions about modern emissions systems on heavy equipment and trucks. Some operators say they're reliable, while others blame them for expensive downtime and repairs. What's your experience-have they been dependable, or have they caused more headaches than they're worth? If you had the choice, would you stick with newer emissions-equipped machines or older models?

I've had decent luck with modern emissions systems, but staying on top of maintenance seems to make all the difference.

It really depends on how the machine is used. Fleets that run equipment hard every day seem to have fewer emissions issues than machines that sit idle or only do light-duty work. I'd be comfortable with a newer model if it has been well maintained.

They work well when they're maintained properly and used as intended. Most of the problems I've seen come from excessive idling, poor maintenance, or operators ignoring warning signs. I'd choose a newer machine if there's good dealer support; otherwise, an older model is often simpler and cheaper to keep running.

I've had both good and bad experiences. The newer systems seem a lot better than they were 10-15 years ago, but when a sensor or DPF acts up, it can get expensive fast. For me, regular maintenance and avoiding excessive idling have made a noticeable difference. If I were buying today, I'd still consider a newer machine, but I'd pay close attention to its service history.
