Diagnosing Excessive Exhaust Smoke in CAT 320 excavator

Hey, has anyone dealt with excessive exhaust smoke on a Caterpillar 320 excavator? I'm trying to figure out whether it's more likely a fuel system issue, turbo problem, injector fault, or something else. Curious what the most common causes have been in your experience and what diagnostic steps helped pinpoint the problem.

I'd start by checking the smoke color first coz it can tell you a lot. Black smoke often points to air or fuel issues, while blue smoke can mean oil is getting into the combustion chamber. I'd also inspect the air filter, turbo, and injectors before digging deeper.
