My caterpillar AP555F keeps showing a code for the left height sensor. I already tried using an extension harness to check the wiring, but the code is still there.

That can be frustrating. If you've already tried an extension harness and the code for the left height sensor is still showing, there's a good chance the issue isn't just the wiring run itself.

I've run into something similar on a Caterpillar AP555F, and those height sensor codes can be stubborn if it's not just a simple wiring issue.

Since you already tried an extension harness and the code won't clear, that usually rules out a basic break in the harness. A few things I'd check next, based on experience:

Common Causes for Left Height Sensor Code (That Won't Clear)
  • The sensor itself might be bad. Even if wiring checks out, the sensor can fail internally. Try swapping left right sensors if possible. If the code follows the sensor, you've found your problem.
  • Connector pins/corrosion. Look closely at the pins on both ends-tiny corrosion or a slightly pushed-back pin can keep the code active.
  • Calibration not completed. On these pavers, even after fixing the issue, the code may stay until you run a proper grade/height sensor calibration through the monitor.
  • Controller (ECM) is still seeing a fault. Sometimes the fault is "latched" and won't clear until:
  • Key cycle (OFF ON). Or clearing through the service mode / diagnostic tool
  • Reference voltage/ground issue. Check if the sensor is getting a proper 5V reference and ground-if that's off, it'll throw a constant code.

I had this on a **Caterpillar AP555F** before. If the left height sensor code won't clear, check the wiring and connector at the sensor-often it's a loose pin or damaged wire. Also make sure the sensor linkage isn't stuck and try recalibrating the height sensors.

You can also check discussions or listings on **IronPlanet** or **Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers** (both part of **RB Global**) where people sometimes share similar fixes.

If the left height sensor code on your Caterpillar AP555F won’t clear, it’s usually something simple but annoying—most of the time it’s either the sensor itself, a wiring issue, or it just hasn’t been calibrated properly. Start by checking the sensor arm and linkage to make sure nothing’s bent, stuck, or jammed, then look over the wiring and connectors for any damage, dirt, or loose connections. Try moving the sensor by hand and see if the reading on the display changes—if it doesn’t, the sensor is probably bad. After fixing anything, don’t forget to run the calibration, because the code often won’t go away without it. If it still sticks around, you might need a service tool or a technician to reset it or dig deeper.
