Best Pole Saw for Occasional Use?

Hey everyone,

I’m in the market for a pole saw and could use some recommendations. I’m a homeowner, not a pro, and would likely only use it a few times a year for trimming branches around my property. I don’t want to go super cheap, but I also don’t need top-of-the-line commercial gear.

Ideally, I’d like something:

  • Durable – I want it to last a long time with light use.
  • Easy to handle – Not too heavy or awkward to maneuver.
  • Good reach – Needs to extend far enough to handle medium-sized branches.
Would you recommend gas or battery-powered for this kind of occasional use? Any specific models you’ve had good luck with?

Thanks in advance!

I’d recommend looking at battery-powered pole saws like the Greenworks 40V or the Sun Joe 8-inch model. They’re lightweight, easy to handle, and perfect for occasional use. Battery power offers the convenience of no fumes or maintenance like gas models, plus they’re usually quiet. Both have a decent reach and are durable enough for light to moderate trimming. I’ve had good luck with both brands for home use.

I’d second the battery-powered option—less hassle than gas, and for occasional use, you don’t have to worry about fuel sitting around. I’ve heard good things about the Greenworks 40V too! Easy to use and plenty of reach for most yard work. Let us know what you end up going with!

Hey, If you’re only using it a few times a year, a battery-powered pole saw sounds like the way to go—low maintenance, no messing with gas, and still plenty of power for trimming. The Greenworks 40V seems to be a popular pick! Let us know what you decide on!

Yeah, a battery-powered saw sounds perfect for occasional use—no hassle with fuel or maintenance. The Greenworks 40V keeps popping up as a solid choice. Would be curious to hear how it works for you if you grab it!

Great recommendations so far! Battery-powered definitely seems like the way to go for occasional use. Has anyone tried the DeWalt 20V or 60V pole saws? I’ve heard they have solid power and durability. Curious how they stack up against the Greenworks models!

Looks like battery-powered is the way to go! @SteelBuilder500, I’d also be interested in hearing how the DeWalt 20V or 60V compares, especially in terms of power and battery life. Anyone here used both and have a preference?

Seems like battery-powered is the clear favorite! I’d also be curious how the DeWalt models compare to Greenworks, Does anyone tried both and have a preference?

Sounds like battery-powered is the way to go! I’ve heard good things about both Greenworks and DeWalt, does anyone have experience with both? Wondering if the extra power of the DeWalt 60V is worth it for occasional use.

Hey @ConcreteKing, looks like everyone’s team battery-powered here, and I gotta agree! Less hassle, no gas headaches, and plenty of power for occasional trimming. Have you checked out the DeWalt 20V or 60V models? Curious if the extra power is worth it over something like the Greenworks 40V. Let us know what you end up going with!

I’ve been using the Greenworks 40V for a couple of years now for light trimming around my place, and it’s held up great. Super easy to use and no gas mixing, no tugging cords- just charge and go. I’ve also tried a buddy’s DeWalt 20V, and while it’s solid, I didn’t notice a huge difference for basic yard work. For occasional use, the Greenworks checks all the boxes: lightweight, decent reach, and enough juice to get the job done. Definitely worth a look if you want something dependable without overdoing it.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! @Mr.Woodpirate, sounds like the Greenworks 40V is a solid choice for light use. @SteelBuilder500, I’m curious too about how the DeWalt models compare, does anyone find the extra power really makes a difference for smaller jobs, or is the Greenworks enough for most things?
