Any advice on switching roles in construction?

Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking about my next step in construction and could use some advice. For those who’ve moved up or switched roles, what helped you land better job opportunities, certifications, networking, or just experience? Also, is it better to specialize in one trade or stay flexible across different roles?

That's a big move, and honestly, there's no single "right" way to do it. Start by getting scary good at one thing, so you have a solid foundation, but keep your ears open to everything else happening on-site.

The people who move up fastest are usually the ones who keep learning, take initiative, and make life easier for the crew and supervisor. Skills matter, but attitude and consistency matter just as much.

yeah seems like being good at your job gets you noticed, but being the guy who can fix random problems too is how you accidentally get promoted

seems like a mix of getting really good at one thing but staying flexible enough to jump into other roles when opportunities pop up.
