Can the high-pressure fuel pump seal on a Cat XQ60 generator be replaced without removing the timing cover?

After cleaning everything up and fixing another leak, I noticed oil starting to seep around the pump after a few hours of running. It almost seems like the O-ring or seal between the pump and front case is failing.

On a lot of CAT generator engines, the high-pressure fuel pump seal or O-ring can usually be replaced without fully removing the timing cover, but it really depends on the exact engine arrangement inside the XQ60.

You may be able to replace the seal without removing the full timing cover, depending on the exact pump setup. A lot of times the pump can be pulled far enough to change the O-ring or gasket, but timing marks and cleanliness are really important. Definitely worth checking the service manual first before taking it apart.

I'd be checking the pump shaft for wear too.. I've seen new seals start leaking again pretty quickly when the shaft surface was the real culprit.
