John Deere 245G RPM Specs. Is 1800 RPM too low for WOT?

Hey everyone,

I've been running a 2015 John Deere 245G LC for a bit now, and I've always had a gut feeling that the engine doesn't sound like it's reaching full song at wide open throttle (WOT). It just feels a little "lazy" compared to other excavators I've operated. I finally dove into the monitor settings today to check the actual numbers, and it's topping out right at 1800 RPM.

For those of you running the same series or similar Deere/Hitachi machines:
  • Does 1800 RPM sound normal for the high-idle spec on a 245G?
  • Is there a specific "Power Mode" or an Eco-mode setting hidden in the menus that might be capping the revs?
  • Could this be a throttle cable calibration issue, or should I be looking at the electronic dial/actuator?
I want to make sure I'm getting the full breakout force and cycle times out of this machine without straining it if something is actually dialed back. Any insights on the factory spec or where to look in the display for adjustments would be much appreciated!

For a John Deere 245G LC excavator, hitting around 1800 RPM at full throttle is pretty normal. These newer machines usually top out around 1800-1900 RPM, not as high as the older ones.

Before you stress about it, I'd check a few simple things:
  • Power Mode: Make sure you're in P (Power) mode. Eco can make it feel a bit sluggish.
  • Throttle Dial: If it feels "lazy," the dial or calibration might be a little off.
  • Filters/Fuel: Dirty filters can definitely make it feel underpowered.
  • Settings: Some machines slightly limit RPM depending on load or system settings.
Honestly, if everything else feels fine, you're probably right where it should be.

The John Deere 245G is a solid and reliable machine, and running around 1800 RPM can actually be efficient for many tasks without overworking the engine. It’s great to see operators focusing on proper RPM use, because that’s what keeps performance strong and extends machine life.

1800 RPM at WOT can be normal depending on mode. In Economy mode, Deere intentionally limits top RPM to save fuel. Even in Power mode, the system may not always push full governed speed unless there’s load. On the John Deere 245G LC excavator, rated engine speed is around 2000 RPM, but that doesn’t always mean you’ll see 2000 at high idle in every mode.
