Why Do Some Dump Trucks Have Small Extra Wheels?

Hey all,
I've noticed that some dump trucks have small extra wheels, often positioned above the main tires. What’s the purpose of these smaller wheels? Are they for added support, weight distribution, or something else?

Also, do all dump trucks have them, or are they only used for certain loads or road conditions? Would love to hear from anyone familiar with dump truck setups!

Those extra wheels are called lift axles! They help with weight distribution when carrying heavy loads and can be raised when not needed to save tire wear and fuel. Not all dump trucks have them, it depends on load size and local weight regulations!
