Used Compactors—What Should You Watch Out For?

Hey guys,
Thinking about picking up a used compactor for some upcoming jobs and wanted to get some advice first. What are the biggest red flags to watch out for when buying one used, mechanical, cosmetic, or otherwise? Any tips on how to spot hidden issues before they turn into costly repairs?

Good question, Markmichael! One thing I’ve learned the hard way is to check for uneven drum wear and leaks around the hydraulics, but also don’t forget to test the vibration system under load. Anyone here ever had issues with wiring or electronics in older compactors? Curious what else tends to sneak up on buyers.

definitely check the vibration function and listen for odd noises, I had one that looked fine but barely compacted once on the job
