you'll feel it right away-the controls will feel totally backward! best move is to stop the machine immediately, lock it out, and double-check the pattern switch before operating again.

Exactly. . . on most Deere excavators the pattern selector is under the seat or in the cab menu, so if it gets bumped mid-shift you'll instantly notice reversed stick/boom movements--best practice is stop, idle down, confirm the pattern, then ease back in slowly.
