hey everyone!

Owning a flatbed trailer is more than just hooking up and hauling, it takes regular maintenance and attention to safety to keep everything running smoothly. Over the years, I’ve learned that neglecting small things can lead to big problems down the road.

Some key things to focus on:

  • Tire care – How often do you check your tires for wear and proper inflation? Underinflated or worn-out tires are a huge safety risk.
  • Brakes and lights – What’s your routine for checking brakes, signals, and reflectors? Skipping this can lead to serious issues, especially in bad weather.
  • Securing loads – Do you have a go-to method for strapping down cargo? Loose or shifting loads can damage your trailer or cause accidents.
  • Rust prevention – What’s the best way to protect against rust, especially on steel trailers? A little maintenance now can save major repair costs later.
  • General wear and tear – How often do you inspect your trailer’s suspension, axles, and decking? Catching small problems early can prevent breakdowns on the road.
What are your best tips for keeping a flatbed trailer in top shape? Any safety lessons learned the hard way? Let’s hear your experiences.

Hey @Top_tow_Leo! I learned the hard way that skipping tire pressure checks can lead to blowouts at the worst possible time. Now I make it a habit to check tires, brakes, and straps before every haul, it takes a few minutes but saves a ton of trouble down the road!

Solid advice! I’d add that keeping straps and chains in good shape is just as important, frayed straps or rusted chains can fail when you least expect it. Also, a quick walkaround before and after every haul helps catch small issues before they turn into big problems. Anyone have a favorite rust prevention trick?
