Who insures skid steers?

Hey everyone,

I'm curious about who insures skid steers. Are there specific insurance companies that offer coverage for them?

Do you need special insurance for skid steers, or is it typically covered under general equipment insurance?

Also, are there any differences in coverage options based on the type or value of the skid steer? Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations!

Hey @Bob, skid steers are usually covered under heavy equipment or contractor’s equipment insurance. Companies like Nationwide, The Hartford, and Progressive Commercial offer solid policies. Coverage can vary based on whether it’s leased, owned, or used on- vs. off-road, and higher-value machines might need extra protection like theft or liability add-ons. Always worth checking if it’s covered under your general business policy too!

Thanks for the info @road_runner! I’ve been looking into insurance too and didn’t realize how much coverage can vary depending on how the skid steer’s used. Has anyone here gone through a claim process before? Curious how smooth that actually is with these providers.

Good question, mine’s covered under a contractor’s equipment policy with Progressive, and they were pretty flexible. Definitely recommend checking if transport and jobsite use are both covered, since some policies split that up.

Good stuff here! I’ve been wondering the same, especially about how claims actually go down. Has anyone ever had to file for theft or damage on-site? Curious how responsive the insurers are when it’s time to actually use the coverage.
