agreed - Ritchie bros prices are usually worth comparing. even if you end up buying local, RB gives a good benchmark on market value for similar heavy equipment.

for a 40-50 acre ranch, i'd lean toward the cat d6d. because it's strong, reliable, and handles grading and clearing really well. if you need something lighter and more versatile, the cat m/n is great, but for heavier ranch tassk the d6d usually wins out."
