Hey everyone, I’m trying to decide whether it’s better to sell my equipment to a dealer or directly to buyers. What are the pros and cons of each approach in terms of price, convenience, and speed? Would love to hear your experiences and what’s worked best for you!

Hey Jack, I’ve sold both ways coz dealers are quicker, but you’ll usually get a lower price since they need to make a profit. Selling directly to buyers can take a bit longer, but you’re likely to get a better price if you’re willing to put in the effort. It really depends on how fast you need to move the equipment!

I’ve done both, and it really comes down to your priorities. Dealers are quick and easy, but yeah, you won’t get top dollar since they need room to resell. Selling directly to buyers can take a bit more time and effort, but you’ll usually walk away with a better price. If you’re in a hurry, dealers are the way to go, but if you can wait and want more cash, go direct!

I usually go direct when I’m not in a rush it takes more time, but the extra cash is worth it if you’re patient.

For me, it often depends on the machine and how quickly I need to move it. If it's newer, in high demand, and I'm not in a rush, I'll lean towards selling directly. You can usually squeeze out a better price that way.

However, if it's older, has higher hours, or I need to free up space or cash quickly, dealing with a reputable dealer can be the easier route, even if I take a bit of a haircut on the price. The convenience can be worth it.

My biggest piece of advice - know your equipment's value. Do your research to understand what your machine is worth on the open market and what dealers are typically offering. And remember just because something is listed at a price, doesn't mean it's selling at that price.

I’d say it really comes down to what you value more about speed or price. Dealers make things fast and hassle-free, but selling direct can definitely fatten your wallet if you’ve got the time and patience. Anyone found a sweet spot between the two?
