Do Bulldozers Have Steering Wheels?

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed that unlike many other heavy machines, bulldozers don’t always seem to have a traditional steering wheel. How exactly do operators control and steer them?

Are there different types of steering mechanisms depending on the model or brand? And for those who’ve operated both, how does steering a bulldozer compare to other construction equipment like loaders or excavators?
Would love to hear from experienced operators or mechanics!

No, bulldozers don’t have traditional steering wheels. Instead, they use levers or joystick controls to steer by slowing or stopping one track while the other keeps moving. Some newer models have hydrostatic steering, which makes turning smoother. It’s definitely a different feel compared to loaders or excavators and more like controlling a tank than driving a wheeled machine! Have you had a chance to try one out?

New to the forum here, but this is super interesting! I always assumed they had steering wheels like other machines, didn’t realize it was more like tank controls. Does it take a while to get the hang of using levers or joysticks instead?
