Hey everyone,

I’m trying to get a better handle on how equipment leasing works with taxes in 2025.

Can you actually write off leased heavy equipment as a business expense? Are there specific deductions or limits I should know about?
Would love to hear how others are handling this come tax season!

Yep, you can usually write off equipment lease payments as a business expense, as long as it’s used for your construction biz. It’s considered an operating expense, so it goes under your regular deductions. Just make sure the lease isn’t structured as a purchase (those follow different rules). Always worth double-checking with your CPA!

Yeah, I’ve been writing off lease payments for my gear the last couple of years, which definitely helps at tax time. Just gotta be sure it’s a true lease and not a disguised purchase. I run everything by my accountant just to be safe.

Interesting stuff! I’ve been thinking about leasing a mini excavator soon, does anyone know if there’s a cap on how much you can deduct each year, or if certain lease terms make a difference for write-offs? Curious how much flexibility there really is with the IRS on this.

Great question! I’ve been wondering the same, especially with how many leasing options are out there now. Anyone here know if short-term vs long-term leases affect how much you can write off, or if it all gets treated the same? Definitely feels like something that could make or break your year-end numbers.
